Protesters halt bypass
Protesters stopped work on the Newbury bypass again yesterday with 20 people arrested during clashes between police, security guards and activists. Campaigners chained themselves to machinery and climbed trees as contractors battled to begin clearance work on three different sites in Berkshire. Police said it was the highest number of arrests for aggravated trespass since work began last week.
