Bypass evictions

Newbury bypass protesters failed to block moves to evict them from their camps, tunnels and treetop homes. Sir John Wood, sitting as a High Court judge, ruled that the Department of Transport had been lawfully granted possession of land at Snelsmore Common occupied by campaigners. The protesters had admitted that they were trespassers on the 8½-mile bypass route.
